the small, picturesque town of stowe is nestled in northern vermont, less than 50 miles from the us/canadian border. it was originally a mining hub and logging spot on the chessie-seaboard railway before becoming a popular tourist destination.

with warm summers and frigid winters, it's no surprise that stowe took on new life when winter sports were introduced to the town, but there's much more to see. we are home to many parks, hiking trails, and even waterfalls! one of the best areas to visit in the summer is the waterbury reservoir, where you'll find our residents grilling and paddleboarding. make sure to visit during one of our many festivals or events!

pictured here is moss glen falls, just a short distance from the historic village!
nicknamed "the ski capital of the east," stowe is best known for its ski resort and beautiful mountains, mount mansfield and spruce peak. mount mansfield is the highest peak in the state at an impressive 4,395 ft, while spruce peak sits at a respectable 3,390 ft. with over 100 trails for skiing and snowboarding at every level, there's plenty of fun to be had!

while you can hike our mountains most of the year, we understand you may want to take a
different scenic route to the top. our world famous sky gondola will get you where you need to be -- with views of the surrounding forest, you'll feel like you're in a fairytale. pro tip: try the gondola in the early morning! you'll be flying right through the morning mist.

we know you needn't be reminded that the incredibly popular
"lovebite" film trilogy, based on the bestselling books, was filmed right here in stowe. the unknown cast and even local extras rocketed into the public eye, generating unheard of publicity for stowe and the film's two sequels, "lunar bond" and "lifeblood." more than a decade later, locations from the films still attract a steady stream of visitors, and the films themselves are shown regularly at the local movie theater.

our residents could never have guessed that the ski capital would soon become the tourism capital for all things vampire and werewolf. filming for the spin-off tv series begins this summer!
